You borrow a coin from a spectator and, while completely surrounded, you show all sides of the coin and display both hands empty, besides the borrowed coin. Now, while keeping the coin in plain view, you proceed to create an optical illusion as you say, “Folks this looks absolutely convincing when done properly. As I concentrate on your coin and begin to pull on it, what do your eyes see?” Suddenly, and to everyone’s shock and amazement, the coin appears to melt and stretch between your fingers as if you had hands of fire! As you stretch the borrowed coin like hot taffy you say, “It’s an incredible optical illusion that looks very believable simply because … it’s true!” Your fingers come away from the coin to reveal that it has been stretched to twice its original length, while in plain view of the audience the entire time!
